So you're interested in buying a McDermott cue? Fantastic choice, but the options can be a bit daunting. This guide will help you figure out the myriad options offered by McDermott, and select the cue that is right for your tastes and your budget. First, let's take a look at McDermott's current product line.

Series Introductions

McDermott offers several series, each containing similarly-priced cues. The finest cues that McDermott makes all reside in the Prestige Series, with cues ranging from $2850 to $3250. Prestige cues are limited to production of 100 each, making them very collectible. The Elite Series cues range in price from $649 to $1495, and feature exotic woods like Ebony, Cocobolo and Zebrawood. Next up is the Professional Series ($379 - $639), with cues featuring extensive inlay work and fun graphics. If you're looking for great value in a moderately-priced ($269 - $375) cue, look no further than the Tournament Series. McDermott's lowest-priced cues ($139 - $229) fill out the Competitor Series, which boasts several new additions for 2006. McDermott also offers a line of Jack Daniels and Harley-Davidson(r) cues in the Licensed Series. Mike Massey and Jennifer Barretta each have their own line of McDermott cues, in the Tour/Players Series. New for 2006 are the Intimidator Series cues, which feature McDermott's popular I-Shafts.

Once you've selected your cue, you then have a list of no charge options to decide on. The two that you must select are cue weight and shaft diameter. Optionally, you can also select some of the colors in your cue (wrap color, stain, pearl), or you can purchase the cue exactly as pictured in the McDermott catalog.

No Charge Custom Options

Every McDermott cue offers you two custom options at no charge - cue weight and shaft/tip diameter. Cue weights from 18oz - 21oz can be chosen, in half-ounce increments. Some cues can't be made below 19 ounce weight, because the woods used (especially ebony) make the cue too heavy for weights under 19oz. Available shaft diameters include 12mm, 12.5mm, and 13mm.

Additional No Charge Options

Many McDermott cues also allow you to change the wrap color and paint or stain color - see each cue for details. There is a charge to change a stained cue to a painted finish.

Joint Change

Each McDermott cue has either a standard joint or a quick-release joint. For a charge, the the joint can be changed to suit your preferences.

Alright, now that we've got the basics covered, it's time to investigate more options. If you need further customization, you've come to the right place! McDermott offers all kinds of additional options for a small fee. Let's start with changes to the sizing of the cue.

Custom Cue Sizing

If you need a cue that is lighter than 18oz or heavier than 21oz, McDermott can do that for you on most cues (see above). McDermott also can make you a cue with a shaft diameter under 12mm or over 13mm - this starts around $35. Need a cue longer than 58" (the standard cue is 29" each for the shaft and butt)? No problem, they can do that, too.

Cue Engraving

McDermott offers many ways to customize the appearance of your cue, in addition to the color options mentioned above. The most popular of these options is engraving. You can have up to two lines of engraving (maximum of 15 characters per line, including spaces) added to the butt of any McDermott cue. The cost is around $20 per line, and it will add about a week to the standard shipping time. There are two font choices: Block or Script.

There are several other options available for altering the appearance of your cue. We'll cover wrap options next.

Wrap Options

The vast majority of McDermott Cues also allow you to choose your wrap color - but did you know that you can choose Leather wrap? Leather wrap is available in two colors - black and brown. Upgrading to Leather wrap is around $50, although many McDermott cues have leather wrap standard. You can also choose to have finish over the wrap for around $50. You can view a larger picture of the wrap colors at the bottom of this page.

Just a few options left!

Tip Options

Triangle medium-hard tips are standard on most McDermott cues. As you might imagine, McDermott will substitute a different tip for you. Choose from Moori (quick/hard, medium or slow/soft) or ElkMaster (soft) tips to suit your personal preference. Tip changes cost about $20.

Jump/Break Conversion

Most McDermott cues can be converted to a jump/break configuration, where a second joint is added to allow for easy jump shots. Figure to spend at least $200 and add a couple of extra weeks to shipping time. McDermott does have two jump/break cues in the Tournament Series.

McDermott I-Shafts
